Question 1

Does EU roaming work in Georgia (like at home)?

Accepted Answer

No, because Georgia is not an EU country. Roaming here is expensive, so it is more worthwhile to buy an eSIM.

Question 2

Which internet network is best in Georgia?

Accepted Answer

The Magti network has the best coverage, followed by Silknet and Cellfie.

Question 3

Does eSIM work in the mountains of Georgia (Kazbegi, Svaneti)?

Accepted Answer

Although eSIM coverage is strong in Tbilisi, Batumi and Kutaisi, it may struggle on remote mountain trails.

Question 4

With an eSIM in Georgia, can you make calls?

Accepted Answer

No, with SimAbove eSIM plans you can only use the internet. For calls you can use WhatsApp/Telegram or other calling apps. You can also make calls using your usual number, but the rates may be higher than in Lithuania.

Question 5

Which is better – an eSIM or a local SIM in Georgia?

Accepted Answer

A local SIM requires a passport for registration in the store, whereas an eSIM works immediately, so it is more convenient for a short trip.

Question 6

Does eSIM work in the Tbilisi metro and underground?

Accepted Answer

In Tbilisi metro stations (on the surface and at the stations), the connection usually works well, but on the train itself, while moving between stations, the signal is usually lost, because the tunnels are deep underground. It is advisable to download maps offline in advance.

Question 7

Does my phone support eSIM functionality? How can I check?

Accepted Answer

To check whether your phone supports eSIM, dial the code *#06# – if, in addition to the usual IMEI number, you also see an EID number on the screen, your phone supports the eSIM feature. You can also check in the device settings: on iPhone – Settings – Cellular/Mobile Data – Add eSIM (or "Add Cellular Plan"), on Android – Settings – Network & Internet – SIM cards – Add eSIM. It is also worth checking the manufacturer's website for your specific model, because some older or regional phone variants do not support eSIM or support it with limitations.

Question 8

How long is an eSIM plan valid for Georgia? Does the data disappear if I don't use it within a week?

Accepted Answer

The plan will be valid for as long as you choose when buying, from 3 to 30 days. The eSIM plan's validity period starts not from the moment of purchase, but from the first connection to a network in Georgia. You can install the eSIM in advance, and the validity will only start once you arrive. Once the plan is activated, the data and time are counted continuously. If you do not use up the whole package within a week, the unused GB will simply disappear once the validity period ends.
