Question 1

Does eSIM work in Turkey?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but it is important to remember that you need to buy the eSIM before you arrive, because it can no longer be purchased once you are in Turkey.

Question 2

Is it worth choosing an eSIM for Turkey, or is roaming / a local SIM better?

Accepted Answer

It is worth choosing an eSIM, because an eSIM will cost less than roaming. In addition, an eSIM is more convenient to use than a local SIM thanks to its simple activation.

Question 3

Which network is best for tourists in Turkey?

Accepted Answer

The Turkcell network has the widest coverage. Vodafone and Türk Telekom are also good networks for tourists.

Question 4

With an eSIM in Turkey, can you make calls, or only use the internet?

Accepted Answer

Normally, with an eSIM you can only use the internet, but for calls you can use your usual number and the physical SIM card you already have. You can also make calls using internet apps such as WhatsApp, Viber, or FaceTime.

Question 5

How much data do you need for a one-week trip to Turkey?

Accepted Answer

For a one-week trip to Turkey, 5 GB of data is usually enough if you use the internet moderately (for maps, messaging, social media and occasionally sending photos) and connect to hotel or cafe Wi-Fi most of the time. If you plan to watch videos frequently, make video calls or work remotely, it is worth choosing a 10 GB or larger package. For minimal use (only navigation and messages), even 2–3 GB may be enough, but it is better to have a small reserve so that you do not run out of data during your trip.

Question 6

Can I use an eSIM and a physical SIM card at the same time?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can. This way you can keep your Lithuanian number while using the internet in Turkey more cheaply.

Question 7

What happens if my eSIM data package runs out during the trip?

Accepted Answer

The internet connection simply switches off. SimAbove works on a prepaid basis, so when the data runs out, the connection stops. No additional bills are generated. To top up your mobile internet, you can buy a new package in the app at any time, or top up your existing eSIM. The app usually shows real-time data usage, so you can track how much is left and top up in advance. If your data has completely run out and you have no connection to top up, you will need to temporarily connect to Wi-Fi so that you can buy an additional package.

Question 8

Do you need an internet connection to install an eSIM?

Accepted Answer

Yes. After installation, you can activate the eSIM either before leaving home or by connecting to a Wi-Fi network in Turkey.

Question 9

Why do some eSIMs not work in Turkey?

Accepted Answer

Turkey blocks the websites and apps of some popular providers, so it is important to buy from a working provider.
